The 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series season is getting closer. Chip Ganassi’s team was the first to test at the new circuit outside of New Orleans, NOLA Motorsports Park. The three confirmed drivers, Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan, and Charlie Kimball as well as development driver (and likely the fourth full-time Ganassi driver) were all on the new 2.67 mile track.
Ganassi Managing Director Mike Hull stated that the course is a “real road track” and that the fan visibility is similar to what it was in Cleveland. It’s also drawing similar comparisons to Barber Motorsports Park, which is great news for Dixon. Kanaan was there testing, just one day after his wife gave birth to their baby boy, Deco.
This was the second test for Karam in the 8 car, who tested with the team last month.
“It’s exciting for us to come to New Orleans. You’re never really sure for the first time how [a new track] will be received.” Dixon said. “I think the crowds will be very good. Even talking to the people at the hotel last night, they know the race is coming. They’re looking forward to it. I hope we can put on a good show and we can definitely build on it.”
The inaugural race in New Orleans is April 10 – 12 this year. It’s the third race on the schedule, with the season-opener in Brasilia, then the March 29 race at St Petersburg.
