Tomorrow’s IndyCar race at Barber Motorsports Park is sure to have an exciting start. The current championship leader, Will Power, won the pole. The top four starters are the four drivers that were involved in the big incident at Long Beach two weeks ago. James Hinchcliffe is starting beside Power on the front row, with defending race winner Ryan Hunter-Reay and Josef Newgarden starting in row two. Scott Dixon and Helio Castroneves form row three. The other reason why the start will be exciting to watch? Tony Kanaan will be starting in last position.
Power is no stranger to Birmingham, as he seeks his third win at this track, after grabbing his third pole at Barber today. It’s the 33rd career pole for the Aussie, putting him in eighth place all-time, just ahead of Michael Andretti. With today’s pole, he earned another point in the championship, stretching his lead over Mike Conway, who will start 21st tomorrow.
The Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama begins at 3 PM ET, with coverage starting at 2:30 on the NBC Sports Network. This will be the final race before teams and drivers turn their full attention to Indianapolis, and the Month of May, which begins with the Inaugural running of the Grand Prix of Indianapolis on the newly designed road course.
