Team owner Michael Andretti announced today that Justin Wilson will be driving for his team, Andretti Autosport, at both races in Indianapolis this year.
Wilson will drive the No. 25 Honda in the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis on May 9, as well as the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 24. Wilson has accounted for seven wins and 26 podium finishes during his 11 year IndyCar career.
After driving for Dale Coyne Racing the past three years, Wilson is excited for what lies ahead. “I’m thrilled to be joining Andretti Autosport. It’s a fantastic opportunity for me and this should be a strong program. I’m looking forward to continuing my relationship with Honda and to working with Ryan (Hunter-Reay), Carlos (Munoz) and Marco (Andretti). I know that the team has everything in place to do well, and I’m really confident about what the group is capable of this year.”
Wilson has competed in the Indianapolis 500 seven times, with a best finish of fifth in 2013. He has three top-ten finishes in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, but driving for Andretti will obviously be his best opportunity to compete for a win. The team won last year’s Indy 500 with driver Ryan Hunter-Reay.
Simona de Silvestro will be driving Andretti’s No. 25 car this weekend in St Petersburg. Michael Andretti said that the team is still working on finding a deal for Simona at Indy, and says the team will likely field five cars in the Indianapolis 500.
