Mid-Ohio Friday Practice Recap

GRxPreparations for this weekend’s Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio began today for teams and drivers. There were two 45-minute practice sessions on Friday. Nearly every driver was faster in the morning practice, including Ryan Hunter-Reay, who posted the fastest lap of the entire day. The reigning Indy 500 winner blistered through the 2.258-mile road course at 1:06.5316 seconds. The fastest driver in the afternoon session was Sebastien Bourdais, who put up a time of 1:06.8271 seconds.

There were a total of 658 laps turned on Friday, as the teams worked hard to get their cars prepared for tomorrow’s qualifications. There will be one final practice before qualifying begins at 2 PM ET on Saturday. This will also be a 45-minute session that starts at 10 AM ET. All IndyCar on-track activity (practice, qualifying, pre-race) before the race on Sunday will be streamed on IndyCar’s website.

The 90-lap race on Sunday will air on NBC Sports Network at 3 PM.

In the combined practice results, Simon Pagenaud was second fastest on the day, and Scott Dixon was third. The Ganassi driver has won four of the last seven races here, but neither he or his three teammates have been able to win a race through 14 events this season. Mikhail Aleshin and Bourdais round out the five fastest drivers on Friday. Despite a slide off into the sand in the afternoon for Pagenaud, there were no major incidents to report.
