Busch, Villeneuve Test at IMS

KBA pair of Champion race car drivers took some laps around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in an IndyCar today. The 1995 Indianapolis 500 winner and 1997 F1 World Champ, Jacques Villeneuve shared the track with the winner of the 2004 Nascar Cup Title, Kurt Busch. They are two talented drivers in two entirely different situations. For Jacques, it’s about returning to the world famous race 19 years after winning the crown jewel in motor sports. For Kurt, it’s about trying something new, and completing “The Double” at Indianapolis and Charlotte.

The drivers had the track to themselves for about five hours today, in fairly good weather conditions. The track dried by 11 AM, and both drivers got going about 30 minutes later. Rain returned just after 4 PM, ending the day a little early. Villeneuve said that he just wanted to get comfortable going through the corners again, and Busch said that he was excited, and that it was finally “go time” for he and the Andretti team.

Both drivers passed all phases of the refresher, and have been cleared to practice for the Indianapolis 500. Busch’s best lap speed on the day was 220.884 mph, while Villeneuve’s was 217.742 mph. They will join Indy 500 rookies on May 5 for the Rookie Orientation Program. Both drivers are looking forward to getting on the track with other cars.
