Two more expected Indianapolis 500 entries were finally confirmed today. Meyer Shank Racing announced that four-time winner Helio Castroneves will return to the No. 6 Honda in his pursuit of history. Two-time winner Takuma Sato was also confirmed by Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing to drive a fourth car for the team once again.
“The drive for five is still alive, that’s right,” Castroneves said. “We’re gonna come back this year for the Indy 500 again with the 06 Honda Cliffs machine, and we’re going to be ready for in the 500.” Helio will join full-season drivers Felix Rosenqvist and Marcus Armstrong.
This will be Helio’s 26th start in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, all consecutively. Since his victory in 2021 with the team, he has finished 7th, 15th, 20th, and 10th in the race. Castroneves will turn 51 years old in the Month of May.
So will once again pilot the No. 75 Honda with ongoing support from machine tool manufacturer AMADA.
“The moment the checkered flag fell at the 2025 Indy 500, our preparation for the 110th running had already begun,” Sato said. “I’m incredibly excited to continue this journey with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing as we take on unfinished business. A sincere thank you to Bobby, Mike, David, and everyone at RLL for their belief and commitment.
“Last year, we showed tremendous speed and strong potential. Now, we return even more focused, more prepared, and more determined. The Indy 500 is always special, but this year carries extra excitement. I can’t wait to reunite with the team, see all the familiar faces, and start building momentum toward May.”
The 49-year-old Japanese driver will attempt to qualify for his 17th Indy 500 in May. He was a contender again last year when he started on the front row and led a race-high 51 laps before a pit error relegated him to a 9th place finish. Sato has ran seven races for RLL at Indy, which includes the 2020 victory.
There are now 31 confirmed entries for the race, with the fourth Andretti car (No. 98) still to be announced. That will likely be Colton Herta, which leaves one more necessary spot to fulfill the traditional 33 starters. Prema could find their way back onto the grid with at least one car, or teams like AJ Foyt Racing or Juncos Hollinger Racing could field an additional car. Either way, it will be a Chevrolet engine making the noise.
