Ryan Hunter-Reay, Conor Daly Join DRR/Cusick for Indy

Dreyer & Reinbold Racing with Cusick Motorsports is returning to the Indianapolis 500 with some familiar faces. The team announced today that they will enter the 108th Running of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing with Ryan Hunter-Reay and Conor Daly. The 2014 Indy 500 winner returns to the No. 23 Chevrolet for the second consecutive year after finishing 11th last May. Daly may not have the accolades that Hunter-Reay possesses, but he clearly knows his way around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Noblesville native has led 47 laps in the last three races and finished in 8th place last year.

Daly takes over the No. 24 car this year, which was qualified by Stefan Wilson last year, then subsequently filled by Graham Rahal for the race after Wilson was injured in a practice crash. Ironically enough, Hunter-Reay replaced Daly for the remainder of the last season following the 500, but assured there is no ill will with his new teammate. “Being teamed up with Captain America is going to be really cool,” Daly said. “Despite what I might have thought or said about him last year, it’s two Americans using Chevrolet engines in a great team with a great chance of doing something big.”

“It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing since joining them in 2023,” Hunter-Reay said. “I’m thrilled to be back and ready to build on where we left off last year. We had a very strong showing at the 500 last year and if it were not for a failed front wing adjuster early in the race, I truly feel we would have been fighting in the top-five to the finish.”

The 2012 series champion is excited about another opportunity at the famed IMS oval. “With the latest car regulation changes, we will certainly have our work cut out for us and we’re eager for the challenge ahead. The passion and dedication of this team are truly inspiring, and I am confident that together we can achieve success at the greatest spectacle in racing.”

Daly has some previous experience with the Dreyer & Reinbold team, competing in Nitrocross events last summer.

“When Dennis first called me, he told me he believed I could win the Indy 500 and all he wanted going into 2024 was the best chance to win as a team. As a driver, what more could you want? I’m extremely thankful for the belief that Dennis has in me and the chance to drive one of his cars. To be teamed up with a champion like Ryan as well I believe truly makes us a threat in the month of May. I love the team Dennis has built already and getting to know the guys at the shop has been a true pleasure.”

“The collaboration symbolizes our shared passion for the sport, and together we aim to write new chapters of success at the Brickyard with new and existing partners,” founder and CEO Don Cusick said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to continue working alongside Dennis Reinbold and his team, which has provided a firm footing for us to grow alongside our partners. I am excited about our driver pairing this year and cannot wait for May to arrive.

“Finally, I would like to thank Stefan Wilson for kickstarting this adventure back in 2021. Stefan’s contributions and commitment have been second to none, and he will forever be an integral part of our journey. We will support him however we can for the future. If we could do a third car in the future for Stef, we’d like to do that, even if it means buying a car for it.”

Dennis Reinbold believes this driver pairing is going to blossom. “We started talking about what we can do with only one goal. Our only goal is to win the race. Our criteria really, Don and myself, was, Let’s go out there and do everything we can to win the race, put the best drivers possible that can do that. Ryan’s proven track record is certainly stellar. Every time you turn around the last several years, Conor is charging to the front.”

“We’re excited to put this effort together. It’s probably our best effort that we’ve had from the start going into the season. We’ve been around, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, our 25th year of being at it. We’re a little past due to win this thing so that’s our goal this year.”
