The third day of practice for the 98th Indianapolis 500 got off to a fast start. The threat of rain was real, and it was coming. Within the first few minutes of practice, 25 cars had already hit the track. One of those cars was Sebastian Saavedra, who strapped into the cockpit for the first time since his scary crash at the start of the Grand Prix of Indianapolis. The KV Racing crew did an incredible job of getting that wrecked race car put together. The rain came around 2:30, and it came in waves. Practice was then cancelled for the remainder of the day.
EJ Viso, filling in for the injured James Hinchcliffe, had the fastest lap of the day, at 224.488 mph. Kurt Busch and Juan Montoya were second and third. That is not a top three that many people would have expected to see six months ago.

While the rain held off for a couple of hours today, things are looking bleak for the rest of the week. Tomorrow’s forecast shows 100% chance of rain with a high temperature of 57 degrees. Thursday and Friday show the same temperatures, with a slightly less chance of rain (although it is still likely). Things should improve for qualifying this weekend.
