This weekend I was privileged enough to do some work with the AMA Supercross folks, as they were here in Indianapolis, racing at Lucas Oil Stadium. There are quite a few IndyCar drivers that are fans of the sport, and I found out that many of the riders are fans of IndyCar as well. Many drivers were in attendance on Saturday night, including Scott Dixon, Graham Rahal, Josef Newgarden, Simon Pagenaud, and James Hinchcliffe. On Friday, Ryan Dungey made a trip to Ganassi’s shop, and Trey Canard spent some time with Newgarden and Pagenaud in the Honda Racing Simulator. Dungey went on to win the main event, in the 450SX class.
After the event on Saturday night, the teams are hitting the road, heading to Daytona International Speedway, the next stop on the 2014 season schedule. They are racing inside of the speedway, which they have been doing for a awhile now. The next logical question is, would IMS ever consider having the dirt bikes inside of the World’s Greatest Racecourse? From a fan’s perspective, is that something that you would like to see happen in the future?
The speedway used to host motorcycle races when the track first opened, even before the Indianapolis 500 was even born. This is different though. If you’ve never had a chance to attend one of these events, you should. Like everything else, it’s much better live, in person. You can find the schedule and everything you need to know on their official website.
