Sebastian Saavedra Joining KV Racing

SaavedraThe not-so-dynamic duo of Sebastien & Sebastian will return in 2014, just with a different team. Last year, Sebastien Bourdais and Sebastian Saavedra were teammates at Dragon Racing, the only team that failed to win a race. Jay Penske’s team is only expected to field an entry at Indy. That left these two drivers without a full-time ride, but now they have found a new home.

With the notable departures of Tony Kanaan and Simona de Silvestro, KV Racing was looking for a headliner. They got their big fish with Seabass, who will take over the number 11 car. The team is expected to make the official announcement on Wednesday, where they will be testing at Sonoma. According to Marshall Pruett and Curt Cavin, Saavedra will still have funding from Gary Peterson, who has helped Saavedra since his days in Indy Lights.

This leaves four open full-time seats in the series. Panther and Barracuda Racing still have open spots with their single-car teams (though they are likely going to be filled by Carlos Huertas and Luca Fillipi). The other two seats are the second cars with Dale Coyne and RLL (speculation continues to be James Jakes and Oriol Servia). This likely means the end of any hope for Simona de Silvestro to return as a full-time driver. Other drivers still searching for opportunities are Conor Daly, Alex Tagliani, and Sage Karam.
