One of the most respected engineers in open wheel racing has a new home. Bill Pappas has left Dale Coyne Racing to join Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, where he will be Graham Rahal’s race engineer next season. Pappas was Justin Wilson’s engineer this past season, where they finished 6th in the final championship standings.
It was a surprising move, given the success that Bill and Justin had this year. Pappas will be reunited with Mitch Davis, who was hired to be the crew chief of Graham’s car late last season. Pappas has had success at Indianapolis too, having won the race in 2000 with Juan Montoya, and was with Bruno Junqueira in 2002 when he won the pole for the race.
In addition to Coyne’s operation, Pappas has worked for numerous teams over the past two decades. Some of those teams are Hall Racing, Walker Racing, Chip Ganassi Racing, Panther Racing, and KV Racing Technology. It may lead into another big story, as Justin Wilson has been speculated to follow Pappas on the move to the RLL team if they secure the highly coveted National Guard sponsorship. Wilson wished Pappas well on Twitter today.
Sad to lose Bill Pappas as my race engineer, great guy, great friend and we worked well together. I totally understand

that he wants to live at home and work in Indy. I think @RLLracing is a good fit. Thanks for all the fun. Until next time bud

Aside from this news, it has been a relatively quiet week. It was announced earlier in the week that Mike King will step down as chief announcer of the IMS Radio Network on November 1 of this year. He is stepping away to focus on his family and other business responsibilities. Mike joined the network in 1995 and has been the chief announcer for the series since 1996. Candidates are currently being interviewed for the vacant position.
The other news that crossed the wire this week was the announcement of Dallara as the new Indy Lights chassis supplier, which will debut in 2015. It was expected, but the news was just made official today. The car will be manufactured in their facility in Speedway.
