James Hinchcliffe Returning to Andretti

HinchThe biggest prize in the IndyCar free agent frenzy this year has landed in a familiar spot. James Hinchcliffe has signed a one-year contract to remain with the Andretti Autosport team. The popular Canadian has been the focal point of this year’s Silly Season, and for good reason. The talented young driver passed on a fully funded contract with KV Racing, which cleared the way for his return to Michael’s team.

United Fiber and Data will be the primary sponsors for Hinchcliffe’s number 27 car next year, after GoDaddy announced that it would be leaving after this season. Another major part of the deal is the Honda company, which will be the engine supplier for the team beginning next season. With Ganassi and Penske committed to Chevrolet next year, it made perfect sense for Andretti to make the move to Honda to be their flagship team. Team owner Michael Andretti told the Chevrolet representatives: “We’re going to miss you guys.”

With the additions of Montoya and Kanaan to the popular Penske and Ganassi teams, Andretti now has his strong stable of drivers ready to compete for another championship. With 2012 Champion Ryan Hunter-Reay locked in, the team has now re-signed their other 2 big guns, in Hinchcliffe and Marco Andretti. The team has also reportedly signed Carlos Munoz to a full-time ride for next season. The Columbian driver ran the number 26 car for the team in this year’s Indianapolis 500, where he started and finished in second place. The team also announced that Matthew Brabham will have an IndyCar ride with them in 2015.
